the fourth

The third of July was spent at Six Flags Magic Mountain, where, once again, I was reminded that mayyybe I'm getting too old for high speed, looping roller coasters and amusement parks littered with rambunctious adolescents. Despite the physical repercussions of overexertion I dealt with the next day, I still had an enjoyable time. After all, good company ensures a good time.

Anyhow, I decided to unwind the morning of the fourth by baking. I was feeling a bit patriotic and initially wanted to bake blue velvet cupcakes with white cream cheese frosting and red sprinkles, but as you can see, that didn't happen. Instead, my afternoon baking session yielded 18 red velvet cupcakes with cream cheese frosting and sprinkles.

Then off to the valley for some 4th of July festivities...

(the elderly couple dancing to live music amidst the prancing children.. so cute)

(signs like these were posted everywhere to keep the flow of foot traffic moving)

I always feel like a little kid when watching fireworks.. how can I not when they bring back fond memories of my childhood? :)

summer days (& nights)

The last weekend of June was by far the sunniest. The grey clouds finally bid their adieu and made way for the sun to reign the blue skies... a perfect opportunity to make use of my camera.

Friday afternoon was spent in San Pedro and Rancho Palos Verdes:

Then came Saturday afternoon/night which was spent at the San Diego County Fair:

fairs are infamously known for their deep fried treats; here is the deep fried snickers bar. Mmm.. arteryclogging, heart attack inducing, deep fried chocolatey goodness. BUT, my all time favorite are the deep fried oreos.. too bad they didn't have any at this fair.

and of course, the boys couldn't resist taking the photo booth photos.

more pictures to come! until then, have a fun [& safe] 4th of july!

hello, nik[on]!

The purchase of a brand new Nikon D60 DSLR has encouraged/motivated me to breathe some life back into my blog. And thus begins my photographic journey through life!

The first picture I took with my camera:
my rabid looking dog, Elphie.

the 'help' ... aka my brother.

The next batch from Yellow Cafe in Koreatown...

I was pleasantly surprised and satisfied with my gogooma latte.

(Jeanee, I'm going to get you one of these with my face inserted)

More pictures to come, as Nik and I become better acquainted. Until then, happy [photo]shooting!

silhouettes

I was so appalled by the haircut I got over the weekend that I could only take pictures of my silhouette. And so, as you can see, my head is... rotund.

It was a traumatizing experience, as the hairdresser did as she pleased and cut more and more layers of my hair. I prayed that my hair would be, at the least, long enough to tie back into a stump... but no, she continued to cut, and I thought to myself, "Well, can't get any worse than this.. might as well just suck it up and deal with it. It will eventually all grow out" Hahaha... I spoke[thought] too soon. She then proceeded to cut my bangs... and I ended up with an extremely short bob with bowl-cut bangs. I looked like a little boy.

This is, by far, the shortest my hair has ever been. And, eventually, the shock wore off. It has only been a few days, but my new hairdo is growing on me. After toying with my hair for about an hour post-cut, I realized I would be able to live with it, though it will probably take me the rest of the year to grow it back out to its original length.

Alas, I am no longer embarrassed to reveal my haircut to the world (or to my single reader). Time to fill in those silhouettes!

Hmm.. come to think of it, my hair looks similar to all the other short cuts I have gotten. Yet, it still appears slightly different.

Trees

I just really like trees. :)
